What We Do

Sue Rock Originals Everyone is a textile based not for profit which empowers the lives of survivors of domestic violence one stitch at a time.

Domestic Violence Empowerment Program

In 2005, Sue Rock Originals Everyone Inc. developed the unique idea of providing needle-arts training to domestic violence survivors. Our program uses time honored skills to create concrete change – covering everything from apparel manufacture and interior home design to basic home and clothing care.  These tools are useful for the individuals, for future employment and to help establish new resources.

Sue Rock Originals Everyone, Inc. has developed a Domestic Violence Empowerment Program which creates powerful change through the textile arts. Using a self-directed approach and needle-arts tools, clients are taught how to create the items they have left behind in their search for safety.  This program has proved successful at the Center Against Domestic Violence where we had an offsite design studio clients could come to.

Volunteering

Our volunteers are our lifeline. We began in 2005 with needle artists of every level creating beautiful hats, scarfs and apparel for survivors living in residences nationwide.  We then began to work with students in the garment industry organizing our donations and creating opportunities.

Volunteers bring their creativity and ingenuity to our organization to make lives more beautiful for domestic violence survivors.

Corporation Donations

The majority of domestic violence survivors are women.  With just the clothes on their backs, these survivors are seeking a new life.  Sadly, the lack of proper clothing can close the doors on these courageous individuals.  It is more difficult when these items are women’s underwear.

For 7 years, Sue Rock Originals Everyone has been the sole donor of new women’s underwear to domestic violence residences throughout New York City, donating over 10,000 units.

Our History

For 10 years we have had the encouragement of the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office in supporting the lives of women. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz has coined our work “Handcrafted Healing” and on May 12, 2011, Sue Rock Originals was presented with the Woman of Valor Award for Excellence in Service by Senator John L. Sampson. The award was made by Senator Sampson and New York’s City Council for this organization’s tireless work to support Domestic Violence survivors in the New York area.
